Bloggers Block - 20th October 2017

I've mentioned previously that I've lost quite a bit of motivation regarding putting reviews of my/our outings on here, you would think that as I currently have a lot of time on my hands that it would be easier to keep these up to date, but, I have lost a little interest in doing them and questioned "Why do I do them?" And to be honest the only reason is to keep a record of where we have been so we can read it back at some point in the future, and sometimes I wonder if that in itself is enough. Anyway, a quick overview of a few recent outings to try to get me back into the swing of it.

On the 11th October the forecast was for really bad weather as the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia were to be battering the UK, but we are hardy souls so would that stop us? Donna was working, and of my other walking pals only Mel and her mum Dianne were available, so off we ventured out into the Peaks. I had planned a walk along Stanage Edge and then over the moors and back, but the moors were just so deep in mud I changed the plan at the last minute and we headed around part of Bamford Edge and then down over the A57 and back along Stanage Edge.

The forecast wasn't wrong, the weather was atrocious for the second half of the walk. It was windy all the way through, and I really mean windy, but the heavens opened for the last couple of hours. One funny thing did happen, although it didn't seem it at the time. I did my usual and just walked through the mud instead of trying to walk around it, but this wasn't just a muddy puddle but was a small peat bog and I ended up almost up to my waist in it! Lesson learned there maybe?

On the 14th October it was a lovely start to the day so myself and Donna headed our fairly early down into Nottinghamshire to Rufford Park. For anyone that knows Rufford it is a very family friendly place so you need to get there early if you want to miss the crowds. And we weren't disappointed, we were there for close to 3hrs and managed to have a nice walk around part of the estate and I grabbed a few photos of the autumn colours and some gorgeous fungi examples hidden amongst the undergrowth.

On the Sunday the forecast was for lovely clear skies at sunset, so late afternoon after pollarding a tree in the garden, we headed out to Baslow Edge; getting there just before the snack van closed so managed to get a hot drink and a cake.

We spent a couple of hours there, unfortunately just as the sun was setting the clouds rolled in so the forecasters hadn't been right, but, we had a lovely walk and enjoyed the views across the valley as we always do when up on the 'edges' And of course we were accompanied by the Highland Cattle that call the moor behind Baslow Edge their home. A really nice evening and worth the trip over.
