Three Trips Tuesday - 19th September 2017

Donna has been joking with me for the last couple of days about getting up for sunrise, she is always awake early and I never am so it's just not happened. However, as I awoke just before 6am today I decided to jump out of bed, and a shocked Donna joined me for the short trip down to the Menai Strait.

And oh was it worth getting up early, it was a lovely sunrise looking across the Strait and over to the Welsh mainland. The sea was quite a way out so I was able to get out onto the old fishing pier to get some great photos, and Donna spent an hour or more looking on the beach for 'goodies'. Thankfully Donna noticed that the jetty out to the ruined pier was starting to get covered by the sea, caught in good time as my camera bag was on the floor so was slowly starting to get wet

Around 2hrs after leaving the cottage we were back for a late breakfast; I had some great photos and Donna had foraged a few artefacts from the beach. After eating we chilled out for an hour or so then set off to Menai Bridge to visit the world famous suspension bridge, and also to drop in to Waitrose for a few essentials.

The walk itself was a couple of miles and took in the historic church on Church Island which was built in 630AD, and the river walk over and under the suspension bridge which is an amazing work of art - until under it you don't realise it's magnificence. It was interesting also to see the famous 'swellies' raging under the bridge - you can see why seafarers could get into trouble in days gone by.

We headed back to the cottage for a couple of hours and had a late lunch; the most amazing jacket potatoes you could imagine. Very crisp on the outside, soft on the inside with gorgeous Welsh mature cheese on the top.... simple dining at it's best.

Around 3:30pm we set off on the 20 minute drive to Newborough. It's a £4 toll to get into the plantation and it's beautiful beaches, and well worth it. Luckily for us there was also an ice-cream van where we both had substantial 99's before heading off on our walk. We headed up the beach and onto the historic Llandwyn Island where we spent a few hours enjoying the stunning island and views across to the Welsh mainland. It is truly a magical place.

We had hoped for a good sunset, but alas it was not to be so around 7:30pm we headed back down the beach to the car-park. And by 8:30pm we were back at the cottage; we had some sandwiches, and an Apple Crumble that Donna had made early in the day - no rest for the wicked...lol.  A great way to end a tiring day.
