Walk: 8:30am to 1:30pm, 10 miles and 2,300ft of ascent

Last year, or earlier this year I can't remember, myself and Malcolm went for a hike onto Kinder that included the walk up Jacobs Ladder, and to be honest I struggled. I had to stop a number of times, just no energy at all. So at some point I had to see if it was a one-off.

With Donna working, and both Malcolm and Darrell off we headed off into the Peak District and I'd planned a route to include that area again. We met up in the main car-park in Edale, and by 8:30am were on our way. After heading out of Edale you pick up the Pennine Way for close to 3 miles before arriving at the old bridge at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder. We took the opportunity to stop for 10 minutes and Malcolm gave his drone some air time.

So now the walk up, and although I won't say it doesn't take your breath, I found it fairly steady. I'd been up many times in the past but always taken the route up onto Kinder and then picked some specific walk once up there, however today I had planned to turn left at the top of Jacobs Ladder, neither of us had been that way before. The walking now is fairly easy, over 2 miles across a wide open moor over towards Rushup Edge. A lovely path as well, clearly all laid over the last couple of years, heavy stone blocks that will soon just blend into the landscape.

We arrived at Rushup then headed east along towards the Great Ridge, stopping off around Lords Seat for lunch, to enjoy the amazing views of Edale and the Hope Valley, and for Malcolm to give his drone a longer outing. He managed to get some great footage flying out over Edale. As we reached the winding road that dissects Rushup Edge and Mam Tor, we picked up the path downhill across Greenlands, and through Small Clough back to Edale village.

A really enjoyable and relatively challenging walk, although I think we all felt like we could have done much more walking.
