Today's walk wasn't about the mileage and views, although we did walk 4-5 miles and the scenery was stunning, but more about taking photos.
Bank Holiday Monday, and Donna was working as she has been much of the time for the last couple of weeks with just a few days off. And as Jake had nothing planned today we decided to have a run out into Derbyshire with the cameras. Now although the weather was fine, and as I've said it was a Bank Holiday, I still planned a route to include some of the 'honey' spots just outside of Sheffield which as expected were very busy.
We parked in the main car-park at Longshaw then headed down through the estate to Padley Gorge, well not exactly the gorge itself but the small stream that feeds it. We took a few photos there and then walked up past Owler Tor, and then headed down towards Bolehill Quarry where we spent quite a bit of time and the path took us up below Millstone Edge. I showed Jake many of the old millstones that are scattered around the area, some well hidden by the dense foliage, some much easier to see. Jake managed to find a gorgeous red toadstool amongst the grass which required me to lay down to get it on camera; well worth it though.
Our route was taking us up onto Hathersage Moor so we climbed (literally) up some rocks to get onto the top and took the opportunity to soak in the views whilst we ate our peanut butter sandwiches; smooth for Jake, crunchy for me.
After following the normal path up to Over Owler Tor, we then went a little 'off piste' and spent close to an hour walking through dense Heather and Bracken - and came away with a good few scratches on our legs for our troubles. Worth it through as we found a few more growths of Fungi which were unlike ones I had see before when out walking.
After eventually finding another proper path we crossed the A6187 and then walked up through the Longshaw Estate back to the car. A quick drink at the cafe before heading back into Sheffield to pick Donna up from work and head home to check out the day's photos.
