A few months ago Donna had signed us up for the Rotherham Hospice 'Glow with the Flow' midnight walk, a 10km walk to raise some funds for the hospice. And as my dad was looked after by them for the last few days of his life it was something close to both our hearts.
So, we picked up our friends Kate & Kenny about 9:30pm and headed over to Wickersley School which was the starting point, where, we joined around 630 other people who were doing the walk. By the time we were all fully made up we had unfortunately missed the 'warm up', but we were ready for the off at 10pm.
I started in a jacket but to be honest it was quite mild for once, so for the first part of the walk I was a tad warm but fought through the barrier. Ok, I took the jacket off. The walking was nice and steady, all along the pavements alongside the roads of Rotherham, lots of cars peeping their horns as they drove by, it was a really lovely atmosphere.
After passing St Bernards School was started the loop back, through Herringthorpe and then back up Bawtry Road. Along the route a local company had a couple of 'stops' set up where you could pick up free bananas and water bottles; a nice touch.
By around 12:15am we had arrived back at the starting point, to be honest we said that we could have gone around again we all felt that good. We collected our medals, and headed to the car to set off back. And, good timing as it just started to drizzle as we were driving home. Something a little different, a very enjoyable.
