Walk: 10:15am to 2:15pm, 7.5 miles and 1400ft of ascent
So it was summer at last, the weather had been very warm and stuffy for a few days, and today was no different. I had expected to struggle a little in the heat, but surprisingly was fine and if we'd had time, I could have done a lot more walking.
After dropping Donna off and work, myself Malc and Colin headed out along the A57 and parked up neat Cutthroat Bridge, a popular parking spot out on the edge of the Peaks. Because of the weather I hadn't picked a particularly challenging route, yes some inclines but in general fairly steady ones.
The first couple of miles took us along the moor past Moscar House and then high up looking down over Strines Reservoir, then further down the valley you could make out Dale Dike Reservoir. We had planned to walk down past Sugworth Hall, an old Folly sat in the middle of a field, but the cows surrounding the folly looked a little too frisky for our liking, so despite numerous failed acts of bravery we decided top continue on down the hill.
After walking around the bottom of Strines Reservoir we took the lane down to Strines Bridge where we had our lunch-stop, before picking up the now busy country lane back up the hill overlooking the western edge of the reservoir. The views from up here were stunning, on a day like this it's hard to think of anywhere better to go hiking!
The walk took us down to pick up the same path for the last mile or so that we had set off along earlier in the day, a steady end to what had been a lovely, if sticky, walk in the Peak District.
