Mixed Feelings - 12th June 2017

A bit of an odd day today. I always look forward to going on holiday and today was no different, but the detour to Wakefield to drop off my laptop, phone et al, in readiness for leaving Fujitsu provided mixed feelings. No more would I make that 2hr round-trip (and substantially more on busy days) up and back down the M1. So on to the next chapter in my life.

Anyway, on to our trip to the Yorkshire Coast.

The detour mentioned above meant that it took us quite a bit longer than normal to get to our destination, we pulled into the car-park at Sewerby Hall & Gardens just before noon, so as it was so near to lunchtime we tucked into our packed lunch before entering the property on the outskirts of Bridlington.

The house wasn't bad, but we've seen a lot better, and the gardens were the same - middle of the road. You could certainly tell that it was a council run property, some areas looking a little unloved, yet some areas where the 'H&S police' had certainly been out. We did enjoy looking around the nursery, the plants on sale were very reasonably priced so we decided that we would drop by on the way back home on Friday. There's a small zoo on the site, not that much to see and a little dirty looking to be honest. So not a bad place to visit if you're in the area, but maybe not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit.

We left around mid-afternoon and headed up the coast to Scalby and Low Moor Cottages where have stayed a good number of times - this time to Wren Cottage.

After unpacking and having a well deserved cuppa it was time for tea, so to our favourite chippy around the Scarborough area, North Bay Fisheries. We drove onto Marine Drive and sat there to eat our food, just enjoying the view and people watching.

Shortly after eating we ventured further up the coast to Robin Hoods Bay where we spent well over 2hrs walking up an down the beach and around the narrow streets until dusk closed in on us. We did mange though to get some lovely photos taking advantage of the now pink skies. We arrived back at the cottage around 11pm, a late night but an enjoyable one.
