Travel Day - 23rd April 2017

And so to our third trip to the beautiful island in the North Atlantic, and sitting just below the Arctic Circle; however this time for 10 days. The first 7 days would be spent in the peaceful hamlet on the north coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, then 3 days in the capital Reykjavik.
It was a very early start, we left home at 2:30am having had almost no sleep since awaking yesterday morning, with our flight leaving Manchester at 6:30am. And thankfully every single aspect of the journey to Iceland went like clockwork, and by just after 9am Iceland time we were in a brand new Ford Kuga heading out of Keflavik airport for our long journey north-west. The weather was great, lovely sunny skies in the most part so lots to see along the way, and as with our two previous visits lots of stops along the road to take photos. By around 11:30am we had reached the small town of Borgarnes where we stopped for a light lunch, it's a lovely small eclectic place that we had visited when last passing through the town. Although the food choice is simple and limited, it was as nice as we remembered it.
Before leaving town we visited the local Bonus supermarket and emptied the credit card of £100 in shopping - hopefully enough to last us most of the week! We continued up the west coast, yet more stop-offs for photos as the weather had become a little more mixed, in fact light snow was more the order of the day now. The plan was to make a couple of stops along the coast of the peninsula but we simply didn't have time as we wanted to get to the accommodation so that the owners could head back down to Reykjavik.
Now a good few hours relaxing and having a meal, then hopefully late at night all being well we might get to see the Northern Lights again - fingers crossed.
