Mothers Day 2017 - 27th March 2017

Walk: 9:45am to 14:45am, 7.3 miles

Well it's Mothers Day today, but, Donna had to do hard graft down at John Lewis, and as all Jake's friends were visiting their mothers there was only each other for company. So the first ever walk out in the Peak District together, and not just a walk, Jake took Donna's camera as he has started to enjoy taking photos and wanted to pick up some tips.

We parked just up the road from Fox House, as the weather was very good for late March it was starting to get busy, and around 9:45am were on our way.

I'd picked the area of Burbage Rocks and Hathersage Moor, as even though I have done it many times it's nice steady walk with lots to see and take photos of. There's the escarpment of Burbage Rocks littered with climbers, this section forms part of a long escarpment of something like 12 miles. And the area is littered with rocks deposited around the countryside many years ago probably by glaciers, and also the odd grind stone scattered amongst the vegetation for added interest. And today, a few Highland Cattle which I had never seen before on this walk!

Our lunchstop was at the northerly end of the walk, at Upper Burbage Bridge, we then headed back south over Higger Tor and across Hathersage Moor to Millstone Edge where the views across the valley are stunning.

Next over the road and drop down to Burbage Brook which was absolutely teeming with people, as it often is as it's a stunning location and great for families. And with the great weather, some even had their BBQ's out. We carried along the path at the edge of the Brook, up through the woods and up the hill to Fox House for a well earned pint of Coke. We had walked exactly 5hrs, not a fast pace as half the reason for going was the photography aspect, and to be honest I believe that we both had a really enjoyable day.
