After Sunday's cancelled walk in the Peak District as a result of the wet weather, I wanted to get out in the fresh air if only for a short walk. And as Donna was working today and a few hours of dry weather had been forecast in the middle of the day I headed the 30 or so minute drive to Clumber Park.
I've been there many times before, but it's a lovely area and easy walking the 4 miles around the lake; about 5 miles if you do the little bit past the bridge but that wasn't in my plans for today.
It wasn't just for the walk that I had decided to go to Clumber, the main reason was that I wanted to get some photos of the autumn trees in all their glory, vibrant reds, warm oranges and bright yellow, but I would end up a little disappointed as 90% of the trees were simply 'green'; the mix of trees doesn't exactly lend itself to that New England Fall look. Never mind.
I'd taken my tripod and full bag of camera gear so I did take advantage of the bright weather in getting a few decent photos, but not as much as I could have done as the ground was wet and a little muddy from the earlier rain, so making full use of my camera gear wasn't really an option. But, still an enjoyable couple of hours clicking away at whatever took my eye.
If only I had thought to either bring a drink with me, or some money then I wouldn't have returned home with a banging headache as a result of a little dehydration. I got to the far end of the lake and saw the refreshments van with a seating area right next to the lake, and then it clicked that my pockets were bare. I had made the mistake of taking my down filled jacket with me and I was so warm in the sun, so desperate for a drink. But, it will teach me to be a little better prepared next time.
But, it didn't really spoil my walk, after all I was still out in the beautiful English countryside....could it be any better?
