I wasn't going to bother writing anything about this little trip out, but as I am currently enjoying sitting out on the decking, I thought it wouldn't hurt to just bang a few words down on the keyboard.
Donna was at work, I'd done a few chores in the morning so planned to chill out in the afternoon. But, and Donna won't argue with me when I say that I do find it hard when 'home alone' to chill out, I just couldn't sit still. So, as the weather wasn't too bad I made a decision to grab my camera bag and head off out for an hour to take some photos; but, where should I go?
Well I didn't want to go too far, actually I couldn't as I needed to head back into Sheffield later to pick Donna up from work, so set my cogs going thinking of somewhere to go, Ah, "What about Roche Abbey?" Now I hadn't been there for over 40 years, ok it's not exactly going to have changed, so I had formed a plan.
Being English Heritage I can use Donna's corporate card to gain access, I did however buy a guide book as it all goes to a good cause and I quite enjoy sitting down at the end of the day and reading about where I have been. Being a weekday it was lovely and quiet, I was there for about 90 minutes and only two other people visited.
I had forgotten how much there was to see, and stunned by the beautiful setting. With the sun breaking through the clouds it really was an enchanting place to be. So much history, and so peaceful. I took quite a selection of photos but that won't surprise anyone, and I even had time before setting off to pick up Donna to get them on the computer and uploaded....result.
