And yet another stormy start to the day, in fact in spells it was worse than it was yesterday. There was really no point in venturing out this morning as we would have gotten soaked to the skin wherever we went. You may wonder why we didn't go somewhere that was under cover, well January isn't really the time of year when open attractions are plentiful, so often outdoors activities are the order of the day.
But who cares, as I have said before "we're on holiday" so lets just chill again this morning as the forecast is for some improvement in the afternoon, and then see where that takes us. After a good lunch in the cottage that is. Maybe today I might get to use my camera again after yesterday's wash-out.
As the weather had abated a tad, we made a move and headed out for a couple of hours. But, where should we go? Donna was still feeling under the weather so we wouldn't be going off on a walk, and as we've booked a week in Anglesey for May we wanted to save any attractions 'across the sea' until then. However, after perusing the internet I found a little place just a 30 minute drive away - Bodelwyddan Castle. Ok it's not a castle in the heritage sense, more of a country house but still very much worth a trip over.
It felt a little weird visiting an historic house and paying; we're so used to just flashing our HHA cards that I found it a struggle to force myself to cough up the £5.50 each. Not a lot of money though considering. Donna took advantage of their excellent audio/visual guide and set off with headphones tucked over her head. As usual, with me it's just wander and see what turns up.
Well we were pleasantly surprised as it was a lovely house with plenty of relatively recent history; the last couple of hundred years or so that is, I don't mean post-millenium! There were a few interactive areas, the one we liked most was where we could dress up, have a photo taken which you could then add to a sepia background and then email it to yourself, it was rather fun if I'm being honest.
The only disappointing aspect was the fact that you were promised guides scattered around the house on hand to answer any questions that you might have, but most of the time they were all just congregated in one room chatting about their personal lives. Not very professional.
So after about 90 minutes we headed off back to Conwy, just a little shopping to do on route and then back to the cottage for a cooked chicken with jacket potatoes....and here the wind and rain come again.
