Decisions Decisions - 29th December 2015

After eating rather too much over the last few days, we just had to get out and about for a walk today, and as a bonus the weather was stunning for December. Clear blue skies and around 12c, so there wasn't even any need to get too wrapped up.

Donna had seen something on Facebook showing the water coming over the top of Derwent Dam so we considered heading out to the Peak District, however after discussing it for a few minutes we decided to take in a walk on the outskirts of Rotherham. It's an area where there are plenty of points of interest, Keppel's Column, Wentworth Woodhouse and Hoober Stand were of interest to us, and although we were born and bred in Rotherham, neither of us have walked around the area.

We didn't leave until just after 11:30am as we had things to do, and as the M1 was very busy we dropped off at J33 and skirted around Rotherham town centre before heading up towards Keppel's Column, Now the only parking we could find nearby was on a housing estate, however we weren't that comfortable with parking close to people's driveways so we took the decision to head over to Wentworth Village to park up and start our walk there.

But, as we dropped down the hill into the village we could see that the area in and around it were very busy; a byproduct I suppose of it being a nice day, a lovely area to walk, and people being off work. We decided to leave it for another day and head back across Rotherham. On our route back we were forced to make quite a detour as the traffic was heavy around Parkgate Retail World, but that took us over towards Thrybergh and the country park so we stopped off there for a walk.

It was another place that neither of us had been to before, and when I was paying for the parking it looked like we really hadn't missed much. So much so that I didn't even bother taking my camera out of the car as all I could see was a reservoir with a walk around in and not much else, so nothing to take photos of. But, it was a mistake.

The walk around the reservoir was only 2.8km so only an hour or so, however, it showed Donna's decision to take her new DSLR camera with her was the right one. The colours were gorgeous, so many natural shapes, different bands of colour, interesting shadows; I could have kicked myself! Never mind though, I could at least take solace in the fact that Donna would be able to provide a few photos for this blog, and so she did, and great ones at that.
