Foggy Longshaw - 3rd November 2015

I'm so 'chuffed' to be back on my rota as it gives me days off in the week again, and of course that means that I can spend them with Donna as she's still got plenty of her long leave left; not sure though if she thinks the same :-)

We've had a few steady days doing bits and bobs with quite a bit of sitting around chilling mixed in for good luck, to today we decided to go out for a little walk; nothing too strenuous but just a couple of hours out in the fresh air. So, although the weather was rather dull and damp we headed out towards the Peak District with the Longshaw Estate as our destination of choice. Although it's around a 45 mile round-trip, we can't really complain as I bet that the majority of the country would love to have gorgeous open countryside just 20 miles away.

I've already mentioned the weather (well isn't it what we're best know for in the UK?), and it was just as we expected; thick fog as we exited the western edge of the steel city out into the open spaces and it stayed that way all the time we were out there. Before parking up we drove the extra few miles down into Hathersage to look for some gloves in Outside which is a great outdoor shop, albeit a fairly expensive one as it only sells the top brands. Alas, though, the gloves I was hoping to try on weren't on sale there, so back to the drawing board.

Just after parking up we stopped off for a warm drink in the cafe on the Longshaw Estate, a cup of tea for my good lady and a frothy hot chocolate for me, then headed off around the estate. You can really clock up the miles if you want to around the estate, but we just fancied a couple of hours rambling around the grounds soaking up the eerie foggy atmosphere, and revelling in the stunning autumn colours. It didn't disappoint. What did surprise us was the amount of people out walking, lots of them with kids - and I thought that half-term was over?

And of course before heading back home we had to eat, and of course as we were only a couple of miles from our favourite country pub Fox House  it would have been rude not to pay it a visit. We both had a lovely premium burger made from Wagyu Beef - very tasty and very filling. Now just to get across Sheffield before rush hour....
