Before today I'd never even heard of Cusworth Hall, and we hadn't even set off to visit it. However, circumstances changed and we ended up here as we were in the area and it was a shame to waste the nice weather.
Our original plan was to go to Brodsworth Hall between Doncaster and Barnsley, an English Heritage property. That was, after we'd detoured to the east of Doncaster to make a visit to the large B&Q there. We're having the bathroom gutted and replaced, and a couple of the fittings we wanted to see if they were on display so took a gamble and went. A gamble that paid off as they did have the units out and they looked as nice as they did on the website.
After our detour we headed around Doncaster and across to Brodsworth Hall, but, after parking up and going to flash Donna's corporate English Heritage card we were told that as it was an event day, and that you can't use corporate cards. A bit of a disappointment, but at £11 each for entry we decided to come back another day. To be honest, the event day had brought the crowds in and it was full of kids so maybe a lucky break.
Now though, we had to think where we could go so as not to waste our time out and about. After mulling over a few options Donna mentioned that just after we left the A1M that she'd seen some signs for Cusworth hall, so should we head over there and see what it was all about?
Well we did and enjoyed a nice couple of hours. The hall itself was a museum, but it was set within a lovely country park. It was clear when we arrived that it was also popular with families, lots of stuff there for them to do, lots having picnics and kids just being kids.
So, whilst it wasn't as planned we did enjoy our half a day in the 'Doncaster wilds'
