Today was the first day of my 7-day break where both myself and Donna had no plans, therefore an ideal opportunity to spend a few hours in the fresh air. And as a bonus the weather was half decent, in fact I'd go as far as saying that it was a lovely day. So, 'high ho, high ho, it's off to walk we go'
Yesterday evening when I was trawling the internet for somewhere to go today, I had thought about venturing down to Dovedale at the southern end of the Peak District. It's an area that we've often thought of going for a walk (it really is a stunning location with beautiful scenery), however as it's a bit of a 'beauty spot' it's often very busy down there.
What I had forgotten about though was the fact that this morning our conifers were being visited by the 'barber'; and as the three guys from Paul Day Countryside Services were here from around 8:30am to 10:30 am, by the time we'd have driven all the way to Dovedale the short days this time of the year would not be kind to us, and by around 4:00pm we'd have run out of light. So, maybe one to save for a couple of months or so until days are a little longer.
So, Donna's idea of a few hours at Clumber Park would be ideal as it's only around 20 minutes drive from home. Ok we've been there a few times before, but there's always plenty to see and as we covered almost 5 miles on our route around the lake there was the added bonus of a few hours of exercise. And as we'd been to the Aagrah at Crystal Peaks for an Indian Buffet with Jake yesterday evening it would be good to walk a few of the calories off. It was great to see the site all geared up for Christmas with lots of decorations and attractions for the kids.
On the way around the lake we came upon a Robin in some trees and were surprised at how it calm it appeared to be with us around. So, I quickly changed from my wide-angle lens to my small zoom, half expecting the Robin to have flown off as we slowly approached it. And to our surprise it wasn't until we could almost touch it that it flew to another branch; and of course getting so close allowed me to get some great photos. If I'd had my 70-200mm lens with me I would have gotten some beauties. That said, I was more than happy with the ones that I took.
We spent around 4hrs in the park: we walked around the lake, we visited the Gothic style Chapel of St Paul (first time we've been inside), spent a few pounds in the craft shop on site and enjoyed a warm drink and cake in the site cafe. And of course as usual I took lots of photos which you can view by clicking here if you so wish. You really couldn't have asked for a better half a day, great weather, a stunning location and most important the great company.
