Our 10 day break on the edge of the North York Moors began with our arrival yesterdayafternoon, it would be our third visit to the beautiful Low Moor Holiday Cottages. They are just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Scarborough to be nice and quiet, but near enough to be on the sea-front in around 15 minutes.
The setting here is idyllic, next to a lovely quiet lane surrounded by fields with very little noise other than the sound of farm animals. We decided to bring our own reclining garden chairs with us this time to take advantage of any nice weather. The forecast was very mixed for the next few days with lots of rain and the odd patch of sun, and within an hour of arriving we did see a good break in the clouds and managed some time in the garden with our feet up soaking up a few rays; It didn't last though. We had no plans to leave the cottage for the rest of the day as we'd eaten in Scarborough before heading out to the cottage; Pizza Hut buffet and then an ice-cream treat at the Harbour Bar.
Well this morning we awoke, I had butterflies at the thought of the game ahead: The first test between Australia and the British & Irish Lions. We had our venue planned; Scarborough Rugby Club where we'd take in a late breakfast and soak up the atmosphere amongst fellow rugby fans. We arrived there not long after 10am and after having a chat to the CEO of the club who we'd got to know over the last couple of years, I ordered breakfast. A regular English Breakfast for Donna and a 'Belly Buster' for me; We then needn't eat for the rest of the day.
By game time there were around 200 in the clubhouse, many in the bar sitting around the 3 large screen TV's, but we were in the main function room watching it on the large screen. It was pleasing the find people there who were staying in the area and just looking for somewhere to take in the game. The game was a very tense affair with the Lions winning a close game 23-21 after Australia missed a kick to win the game right at the death. Just after 2pm we left the club and headed back to the cottage. Our breakfasts were excellent, and we were well refreshed by the rest of the drinks we'd had, Donna in particular with her two glasses of fresh orange and two double Gin & Tonic! Well it would have been rude not to...lol
We had a quiet few hours back at the cottage, in fact I had an afternoon nap, sorry I mean a Siesta, well we are on holiday. Around 6:30pm we donned our clothes (and no we hadn't been sat around the cottage in the nude), picked up my camera and tripod and set off for the North Bay. After parking up we could soon hear the warm up act for the Happy Mondays who were on-stage tonight at the 10,000 seater outdoor theatre, the largest in europe and a venue frequented by many famous acts over the summer.
It was a lovely evening stroll that we had, a couple of hours on the front that was only spoiled by a 15 minute period when the heavens opened. And as bad luck would have it, the rain had started just after I'd set my tripod up on the beach: My luck just wasn't in and I only had time to fire off a few shots. We then headed back to the cottage to enjoy the rest of our evening relaxing. Just what will tomorrow bring?
