Ingleborough from Clapham - 28th March 2011

Walk 10:15am to 6pm - 9.51 miles

A nicer day today, plenty of breaks in the cloud on and off through the day even if the views were a little hazy, so an ascent of Ingleborough was in order, setting off from Clapham and taking the route via Little Ingleborough.

Although we’re from Yorkshire, we weren’t too tight to pay the 60p to take the route through Clapdale Drive and enjoy the extended walk towards Trow Gill – however we did see another couple who detoured around it to save their £1.20. Some people really do amaze me!

Trow Gill was certainly a highlight of this walk, a great piece of natural architecture although we weren’t expecting the slight scramble up the rocks. A mile or so further and Gaping Gill – a little too early in the year to see the winches lowering people into the cavern below, but you did get a sense of what it must be like.

Next the slog up little Ingleborough, with a short break sat on the stones at the top. A rest along the ridge before the final short climb up to the summit – and thankfully not too cold up there, however not warm enough to sit for lunch with just a shirt on – a little too breezy.

We had around 30 minutes rest before setting off back, had a walk around the summit before kicking of our descent. At one point we were going round in circles as we'd lost our bearings a little and couldn't find where we had ascended the summit from!

A nice steady walk back and arrived at the car a little too late to have the drink in the café that we had promised ourselves.
